If your pet had a medical emergency, would you know what to do?
Just like with humans, pet emergencies can happen fast, and they’re scary when you don’t know how to help. Pet first aid teaches you how to respond quickly, safely, and effectively when your dog or cat needs urgent care.
May is National Pet Month, so there’s no better time to learn these important skills. If you’re a pet owner, sitter, or groomer, the Canadian Red Cross just launched a brand new pet first aid course that’s now available through First Edition.
What Is Pet First Aid?
Basic emergency care for cats and dogs covers what to do if your pet is injured, sick, or in distress before you can get them to a vet. The goal is to give you the knowledge and confidence to help your pet right away if something happens. That might mean stopping bleeding, performing CPR, or recognizing signs that something’s wrong, like a change in breathing or behaviour.
